Believe it or not, I wasn’t much into either skincare or makeup before. As any other IT professional who mostly endure a hectic and a fast-paced life, my attention toward my skin or its health was almost non-existent. I didn’t mind in sporadic splurges and hauls purchasing high-end cosmetics recommended by either relatives or friends. But that was it! I would never care to find out what ingredients it carried, how and where it was manufactured, the amount of chemicals it had, or what implication it could have on my skin or its overall health… I would just carelessly slather all sort of conventional products on my face (or all over my body).
The attention toward my skin and my overall knowledge about “natural” or “organic” skincare began only after I had to let go of my unreasonably demanding job and embrace motherhood as a full-time existence. Pregnancy changed my skin condition drastically. I could see how my skin radically changed after the birth of my daughter. I had pigmentation, acne, acne scars, uneven skin tone, and dry patches on my face. On an impulse, I purchased some really expensive cosmetics and skincare products. Initially, they made a feeble attempt to heal my skin; but within few weeks, my acne came back with a vengeance. Everyone started questioning and providing unsought recommendations and suggestions. I was quite upset and dismayed. My troubles were amplified because I had always been very health conscious about my diet and intake. So I couldn’t put a finger on what was wrong!
That was also the time I started my Instagram account. I am a very private and a shy person and was never quite active on any social media platform. But then to keep myself sane (motherhood is beautiful but it can sometimes drive you nuts) and to get some “me” time, I began my Instagram account with my name. And that is where an eye-opening journey and lot of unraveling facts about conventional and non-toxic skincare and beauty products began. The more I got to read/know from diverse Indie brands, the more it made me impatient. That was the first time I actually started reading the ingredient lists of all skincare, hair care, and body care products I had in my closet. There were so many alien terms I couldn’t decipher! I was flabbergasted! Gradually, with baby steps, I replaced most of my skincare products into green beauty products. I made some wonderful acquaintances and friends on Instagram who were on a similar path and carried the same passion in their hearts. My love and passion toward exploring new green beauty brands and unique natural ingredients led me to a path I never thought I would feel so strongly for. And that is what gave birth to “Greenchicgirl.” Join me in this wonderful path of unraveling not just which green beauty products one should use but also to comprehend on how we could make our lives and world a better place by making healthy choices… and skincare could be a start to that mindful decision.
