Another year is coming to an end and I wanted to retrospect on some of the wonderful products and brands I discovered this year. This time, however, instead of rounding up the best products of 2018, I have decided to list out the best green beauty brands of this year.
In the beginning of the year, Nadine Ammari – the lovely founder of this exquisite brand, sent her elegantly packed products for me to try and review. Namari skincare products are handmade in Switzerland with nature’s most exquisite and raw ingredients. Nadine’s – a natural cosmetician – vision is to inspire everyone to a holistic kind of skincare and self-care. With that philosophy in mind, she formulates luxurious and eco-friendly skincare products with finest and efficacious ingredients. The products are fair trade, vegan, cruelty free and made in a sustainable manner.
Best products from this range – The powder mask, Staub! It’s a powder mask that turns into a gorgeous vibrant purple colored mousse when mixed with water/mist. It smells earthy, feels so soothing, and gives an instant glow to the skin. The other products I love from this range are Tau face mist and Kokon creamy cleanser.
My love affair with Dafna’s Personal Skincare began early this year. The first product I tried from this range was their Eye Care (that I have had for a year now and it’s still not over yet!). Dafna’s Personal Skincare is a Spanish natural skincare brand, founded by Dafna in 2008. Dafna’s products are much more than just a cosmetic product; it is a rite, a feeling, a true wellness experience inside and out. Her anti-ageing line is based on the Ayurvedic philosophy, with natural and bio active ingredients and highly advanced biotechnology.
Best Products from this range – While I absolutely love all products I have tried from this range, I do have couple of faves – Eye Care and the Revival Face mask. (You can read my detailed reviews on the entire range here).
Jordan Samuel Skin products were on my wish list for the longest time I can remember. Simple yet elegant packaging, effective ingredients, and impressive reviews had piqued my interest; I was quite eager to try out this amazing skincare line. So after a long wait, I got the opportunity to try out JSS products this year during my family vacation to the US.
JSS was founded by Jordan Samuel who’s a ballet dancer turned esthetician. Inspired by the healthy lifestyle and nutritive choices of ballet dancers, each product is formulated using ingredients that are as healthy on the outside as they are on the inside. From CoQ10 and Vitamin C ester to cranberry seed oil and various amino acids, Jordan’s ingredients make up a comprehensive and nutritious skincare program that could just as easily be seen as part of an anti-inflammatory diet.
Best products from JSS – It’s hard not to love anything created by Jordan. I have tried and absolutely love all the three products from this range – The After Show Treatment Cleanser, Hydrate Facial Serum & Hydrate The Mist. Jordan’s products are genuinely the best!
OY-L skincare is an independent line of 100% natural luxury skin care products with original, plant-derived formulations founded by Andrea-Pierce Naymon who firmly believes in the mission to fight toxins, protect families and empower beauty.
Best products from this range – I think OY-L body butter is the first skincare product I finished in a record time of couple of months after I received it. Doesn’t it indicate how lovely the products are? My faves from this range are the Exfoliating Manuka Mask, definitely the gorgeous whipped body butter, and the face wash.
Moss skincare is a coveted skincare brand, founded by the physicist Celestyna Higgins. MOSS skincare is known for its potent skincare products specifically designed for sensitive and acne-prone skin types. MOSS stands for Modern Organic Sacred Skincare. The potent plant oils, butters and extracts that are used in their products, make them age-defying powerhouses, with chock-full of antioxidants & collagen boosters, that are perfect for all skin-types. The mission of moss is to deliver superior, non-toxic skincare drawing on the incredible power of plants and botanicals through highly concentrated and powerful formulations.
Best products from this range – I’ve tried two products from this range and really loved them both – Beurre Céleste Cleansing Balm & Illumina Radiance Exfoliating Treatment. The other favorite product worth mentioning here is from Moss’s another skincare line, Ambar’s Daily Antioxidant Primer.
KHUS+KHUS Modern Herbal Fusion is a botanical, holistic herbal skincare line founded by Kristi Blustein (a pundit in yoga, ayurvedic science, and plant medicine). Kristi’s unconventional interpretation of plant medicine led her to create KHUS+KHUS, a unified, holistic line of hybrid philosophies, rooted in the fundamental belief that botanicals work within the body through the bloodstream and nervous system to deliver specific results, as well as broad benefits. Unique plant combinations are Kristi’s signature, resulting in aromatic and textural profiles that are completely her own. (Read Kristi’s perspicuous and articulate responses during our Q&A sesh, here.)
Best KHUS+KHUS products – KHUS+KHUS products work really well for my skin. I love their Detox Hydrolat and Detox serum (and very recently launched Rasa Restorative Potion Body Balm). Both of them are very special products and my faves. (Read my detailed review on KHUS+KHUS products here.)
Live Botanical is a beautiful herbal based skincare line from Portland, Oregon, founded by Carolyn McRory. Whole plant infusions, botanical extracts, and unrefined oils, waxes and butters are at the core of every product. I fell in love with the brand after I tried their products. Each product creates a distinct impression. The feel of the textures, the aroma, the unique blend of ingredients; in fact the entire ritual offers a wonderful indulgence.
Best products from this range – It has to be both the elixirs I’ve tried from this range – Aer Fresh Complexion Toning Elixir & Fleur De Terre Lavender+Violet. Plus I also love their Luna Glowing Face mask, a nourishing honey-based mask, that gives an instant glow to the skin.
FLOWER & SPICE
Flower & Spice is a new green artisan skincare brand (launched in the month of June 2018) based in Netherlands. What I personally like about this skincare line is how each product exemplifies uniqueness, innovation, and novelty. (No wonder this brand has gained accreditation in such a short span of time!) Karmen Novak, the lovely founder, experimented with different botanical ingredients to develop truly natural products that would not only transport the senses through scent and texture but powerfully nourish and care the skin.
Best products from this range – When I think of Karmen’s products, I’m immediately reminded of the beautiful aromas of her products – notes of Fennel, coriander, and rose hit my senses. I think each product from this range is so special and offer such a unique experience that it’s hard not to love them. Not just that, they smell wonderful and perform exceptionally well. Instant Glow Calming Exfoliator, Midnight Beauty Serum, and Soothe & Repair Daily Moisturizer – I love all three of them!
YOU Skincare is a streamlined set of skincare products that focus on safe ingredients that deliver results. The founder, Amy Le (a laboratory scientist and a skincare addict) launched her own skincare line after she started to suffer from adult-onset acne. YOU skincare products are known for their potent formulations, active ingredients, and non-traditional blends.
Best products from this range – My faves are the Restore Cleansing Oil, Barrier Repair Cleansing Balm, Vitamin C Antioxidant serum, and Clarifying Glow serum.
While I’ve listed out the brands I discovered this year, Earthwise Beauty and OKOKO Cosmetiques are my all-time favorite skincare brands and will always remain a part of my beauty regimen.
Earthwise Beauty is a luxury organic skincare brand that formulates unique skincare products from raw, organic, unrefined botanical ingredients. I have been using Earthwise beauty products for couple of years now and they work really well for my skin. I greatly admire and respect, Ava Zhan’s (founder, innovator, and an outstanding formulator) brilliant creations. Each product has such a meticulous and unique selection of ingredients; and the blend of active ingredients complement each other very well. Plus, the fragrances and aroma are naturally derived from the ingredients/herbs that constitute the products; so they are quite raw and herbaceous.
Earthwise beauty offers products suitable for different skin types and conditions; and even if you try one product from this range, you can establish the authenticity, transparency, and sincerity of this brand.
Earthwise Faves: Nap in the Meadow serum, Ambrosia Del Cerrado Liquid Moisturizer, Yasuni Face Balm, Cistus and Moonlight Face Mist, and Resiliency Face Serum
A brand quite close to my heart, OKOKO Cosmetiques is a lovely artisan skincare brand based in Vancouver, Canada. Oyeta Kokoroko, the gorgeous founder of this brand, is a meticulous inventor, a professional cosmetics formulator, and an entrepreneur, par excellence. OKOKO Cosmétiques is an avant-garde, luxury skincare brand that designs next-level organic skincare. The brand offers high-performance green luxury products that are designed to tackle frustrating skin problems and visibly improve the skin. Each product blends exquisite botanical ingredients with clinically proven natural actives to help reveal a fresh and renewed complexion.
I’ve been using OKOKO Cosmetiques products for more than couple of years and they are still a staple in my skincare routine. I think OKOKO Cosmetiques is one of those very rare skincare brands (and a pioneer) that not only introduce unique and rare ingredients to the industry; they closely monitor customer feedback and demands and provide the best skincare solutions to their customers. OKOKO products are known for their active and unique blend of ingredients, luxurious indulgence, feminine aroma, and multi-tasking skincare benefits.
Faves from OKOKO: L’elixir De Clarte (an absolute game changer – my HG, want to know why? Read my detailed review about it, here), Dragon’s Blood Serum, and Sublime Balm
