Having acne-prone skin means always being prepared for sporadic acne breakouts and uncalled pesky spots. I have dealt with many acne issues and have used many serums and skincare products that are specifically formulated for treating and healing acne prone skin. Today, I’m cracking my five best products that I’ve found to be very effective in treating, soothing, and healing my acne issues.
OKOKO Cosmetiques L’elixir De Clarté – There’s a definite reason why I’m a big advocate of OKOKO Cosmetiques products. It’s not just because Oyetá Catherine (the super talented founder of this brand) is a brilliant innovator and a great motivator; it’s because her marvelous products really work and have helped me achieve a healthy skin condition. L’elixir De Clarté is definitely one of the first few products that really helped in clearing up my complexion and healing active acne. This water-based serum contains 5% AHA, naturally sourced from blueberries, sugar cane and citrus, is truly quite effective. It’s totally non-sticky and absorbs into my skin easily. Certain areas of my skin do get the tingling effect; but that’s normal. The best part about this serum – there’s absolutely no redness that you generally get from chemical exfoliators (AHA or BHA). You may feel that the water serum is not doing much for your skin; but give it some time and you’ll be amazed! (Though in my case, it worked almost immediately.) Earthwise Beauty Nap in the Meadow
I have utmost faith and admiration in EWB products and the ingenious founder, Ava, who’s the creator of this efficacious and humble skincare brand. Her products are always handcrafted with unrefined and unprocessed ingredients, unrefined botanical oils and butters, traditionally prepared herbs, and therapeutic-grade essential oils, with absolutely no fillers! I have used 3-4 bottles of this minty green dewy serum and I’m never without it. It’s cooling, healing, and soothing; and a little hydrating too. For my oily skin, the amount of hydration Nap offers is sufficient; but dry skin types might need an extra layer of hydration or moisturization. Like all products, it takes time to work on your skin; but once you start using it regularly you’ll see how well your skin responds to it. Definitely, it has to do with the active ingredients that constitute it.
Earthwise Beauty Ambrosia Del Cerrado
This is another Ava’s brilliant creation that really works for my skin. I waited a long time before I took the plunge to purchase it. But ever since I started using it, I have never been without. We experience lot of humidity in Mumbai and it’s hot almost 8-9 months of the year; and this versatile product (which was initially introduced as a toner+moisturizer) works as an all-rounder for my skin. When I get sporadic breakouts, I prefer keeping my skincare routine really simple; like 2-3 products (cleanser, toner and/or just one serum)! I feel my skin responds well when I don’t overburden it with layering products. Minimal routines actually speed up the healing process. And in such cases, I always reach out for Ambrosia every morning! I mean I have literally skipped everything else after cleansing my face and just applied this after. It’s that effective!
Moss Skincare Illumina Vitamin C Intensif
This is a recent discovery and quite an epic one. Definitely I’m not the only one raving about it; it truly deserves all accolades. This is an absolute game changer and you can see how miraculously this serum works right from the first use. I’m not kidding! Since it contains Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate (a stable form of Vitamin C) and it was my first experience using a Vitamin C treatment product; I began using it 2-3 times a week to balance my skin’s sensitivity. But now I use it every alternate day and sometimes every night, if need be. Illumina is so effective in healing acne issues that I have seen some fresh and painful zits (with lot of redness) dry out the subsequent day.
Bravura London Chemical Exfoliators
Just before I transitioned from conventional skincare products to green beauty products, I was introduced to these chemical exfoliators by one of my friends. Bravura London offers three chemical exfoliators – Lactic acid, Salicylic acid, and Glycolic acid. These chemical exfoliators are definitely strong but really effective. They do cause slight redness initially but it dissipates after sometime. I did not experience any peeling but certain areas of my skin would become slightly dry. However, I don’t use chemical exfoliators often now because I have discovered some really amazing green skincare products that work for my acne issues sans any harsh effects of peeling or redness that chemical exfoliators offer. But I do reach out for these chemical exfoliators when my skin is under total attack mode with severe hormonal acne issues. Salicylic Acid & Lactic acid exfoliators work much better for my skin; however I find the latter to be more effective. Sometimes I use them as spot treatments to speed up the healing process of those uncalled pesky acne spots.
There are other serums and skincare products that I truly enjoy and are quite effective in improving my skin conditions; however, these are my best choices for treating acne breakouts and they truly deliver instant results.
Have you tried any of these?
