Hi friends! Today, I’m dishing on my favorite (and best) homemade face mask and the best facial scrub that worked wonders for my oily and acne-prone skin. During my entire teenage and adolescent age, I had to deal with severe acne, acne-scars, redness, dry patches, and other pertinent skin issues. I was so affected by these skin issues that I would spend most of the time sitting at home; applying over-the-counter ointments on my pimples and acne; and would refuse to step outside the house. It was blatantly evident that my confidence was hit badly. What was worse, the ointments I applied would dry out the pimples leaving a bigger and sometimes, deeper scar that would just not go away! I felt things were never going to get better!
My mother took notice of my sudden change in behavior, patiently sat down to explain and encourage me to make healthy choices; and then advised me to regularly use a homemade face mask and a simple face scrub (that she used regularly during her young age). Honestly, I wasn’t really expecting much from these home treatments because I thought what could these simple home treatments do when the prescribed strong ointments couldn’t fix anything? But let me tell you, this face mask and the facial scrub helped in improving my skin condition to a great extent. Definitely, I had to make some dietary changes as well.
After having used these homemade recipes for over a decade now, I can testify to their skincare results. I’m definitely quite passionate about green beauty products; but nothing can compare to the fresh homemade treatments that one can readily prepare at home. And over the years, after having applied these DIY treatments in tandem with natural beauty products, I’m pretty gratified to see the current health of my skin!
So here are my two best homemade facial treatments that are very beneficial for acne-prone skin.
This face mask has been a part of my routine ever since I can remember! During my struggle with erratic skin conditions as a teenager to addressing sporadic breakouts or blemishes…this is the ONE face mask that I could completely rely on!
All the ingredients in this face mask can be labeled as “STAR” ingredients because of the amazing properties they hold. Let’s look at them briefly.
Not sure how many of you are aware with the amazing benefits of gram flour. It is known to fight numerous skin problems, including blemishes, pimples, dark skin, and dull and lifeless skin. Gram flour was traditionally used as a cleanser to maintain the pH of the skin. Besan/gram flour is an extremely neutral ingredient that helps in thoroughly cleansing your skin. It also has antimicrobial properties.
Honey is another ingredient that cleanses, tones, and moisturizes the skin, while activating the natural oils in your skin. Honey also has antibacterial properties that cure and dry out pimples with regular use.
Yogurt is very good for oily skin because of the lactic acid it contains that helps to exfoliate and refresh the skin. It also helps in removing blackheads and scars.
Lemon juice is a tried and tested remedy to get rid of acne scars and lighten the skin tone.
Turmeric works as an antiseptic and also maintains the pH level of the skin.
Now imagine the synergy of these efficacious ingredients?
To make this face mask, mix all the ingredients together to form a smooth paste. Apply evenly all over the face and neck. Gently massage your skin with it. Let it sit on your face for about 15-20 minutes or till it dries out. Then wash it off with cool water. That’s all! Say hello to a fresh, clean, and healthy skin!
This is my most frequently used homemade scrub. Do you know why? Because preparing it is a cinch; and requires just two super ingredients! (Wonderful…isn’t it?) For my sensitive acne-prone skin, I feel this scrub works perfectly well. Not only does it make my skin super soft, it also gives a natural glow.
The Power-packed Duo
Olive oil is an excellent ingredient to unclog pores and balance the skin’s oil production. It nourishes and moisturizes the skin, and this lessens the excess sebum that was being produced. The brown sugar exfoliates the skin and also removes the skin peels that usually form over acne in people with oily skin.
For preparing this simple facial scrub, you need just one teaspoon olive oil and one tablespoon brown sugar. Mix these ingredients and use as a scrub. Rub in gentle circular motions for 2-3 minutes. Finally, rinse it off with lukewarm water. Voila, you get a baby soft skin and super glowing look! Try it out!
