Hi friends! Last year when I was transitioning from conventional beauty products to green beauty products, Mahalo skincare was one of the few brands that really changed my outlook toward organic and natural beauty industry. So today, I’m dishing on my favorite products from this amazing Hawaiian skincare line – Mahalo. Before I begin, let me give you a brief introduction about this hugely popular skincare range among green beauty aficionados.
MAHALO Skin Care is a botanical-based facial care line, offering high-performance, luxurious skin treatments that target skin inflammations, environmental damage, prematurely aging concerns and offer nutrient-dense support for a healthy, and glowing complexions. Taking skin care experience to a new level, the synergy of curative skin treats is achieved by using the finest natural ingredients combined with clinically tested actives and refined, remedial aromatics that awaken beauty and sophistication.
This has to be, by far, my most favorite Mahalo product. I personally feel that once you have indulged in this magnificent creation, it’s almost impossible to be without it. The Unveil is a balm-to-milk cleansing formula that sinks luxuriously into the skin to effectively dissolve makeup and daily impurities, revealing soft and glowing complexion. I’m particularly fond of the olfactory indulgence (say “Hello” to the fresh scent of lemon with notes of exotic fragonia, ginger, and cardamom!) that this green-tea colored water-free cleansing complex offers. And while you’re still relishing the sensory experience of its scent, it just miraculously melts into the skin leaving it silkily soft and smooth. Sometimes I even leave it for an hour as a mask before I hit the shower and the result is a glowy complexion through the day…making me touch my skin over and over!
The vivacious and contagiously-inspiring Maryna, the founder of Mahalo says – “After years of exploring and living the organic lifestyle, it’s clear to me that the daily rituals of self-care, combined with mindfulness and gratitude are the most transformative tools for balanced and fulfilled being. And what better way to indulge in the rituals of self-care than the luxurious treasures of skin care.
In accumulating my knowledge of the herbs, botanicals, aromatherapy, and their efficacy, I came to the realization that the high-performance skin care can be formulated using 100% clean and pure ingredients provided by the Earth, and not generated in the lab.
RARE INDIGO BALM
Where do I begin? Is it the tactile wooden packaging that took my heart away or is it the unique fragrance of this balm that laid the first impression?
So first things first! The sweet floral aroma with a hint of vanilla and mixed herbs is probably the most singular and uniquely different fragrance I have experienced in any product. Not to mention, its nonpareil texture and the slightly transparent, light indigo color!
This balm also had me with its potent mix of ingredients such as, calming agents (rose, chamomile); healing agents (yarrow, helichrysum, lavender); and exotic, hydrating carrier oils (hemp, murmuru, babassu, marula, grape seed, and tsubaki tea seed). What I also love about this emollient balm is that it is not at all greasy! And I barely need 1/3 of a pea-size and apply it over my damp face and neck. This balm needs to be applied in a pressing action to let it integrate with your skin. I personally love this ritual!
Now to some results! I love how moisturizing this balm is. I have combination skin (acne-prone) with dry patches on my forehead and cheeks. But with Rare Indigo, my skin feels soft and plump all day. I have also witnessed that the redness on my cheeks (that appears intermittently) reduces drastically with this balm! I especially love this balm during winter when my skin acts differently and is in need to extra moisture.
THE PETAL MASK
I think Mahalo masks are probably indomitable not only because of the skincare benefits they offer; but also because of how decadent they are! When I first purchased the Petal Mask, I was not only happy to own a Mahalo mask; I actually was happy to get a face mask in a generous sized jar (100ml)! And I think it was well thought of Maryna because once you indulge in this pink-clayed mask, you would want to dunk your entire body in it! It’s that awesome! And a must-have in your skincare arsenal!
The Petal mask is a luxuriously-gentle beta-hydroxy treatment mask formulated to provide deep hydration and improved texture for a glowing, plump complexion. It consists of 28 active ingredients with active enzymes, mineral-rich Amazonian white clay, rose hydrosol, raw honey, and hyaluronic acid – a synergy of which offers a sophisticated blend delivering intense hydration.
The aroma could be described as sweet, definitely floral (because of rose, vanilla, jasmine, and ylang ylang) and uplifting! The consistency of this mask is almost gel-like; so it can be easily applied with fingers but personally, I prefer a mask brush. (Once you start applying masks with a brush, you’ll see the difference yourself.) For me, the ideal time to indulge in this mask is during the evening because that’s the only time of the day I get to myself. Although the instructions mention keeping it for about 15-20 minutes, I love keeping it longer (even for an hour). Normally, with clay masks, you find rinsing off a bit cumbersome; however, I feel the Petal mask rinses off quite easily with warm water. You could also use a wet warm face cloth (however, I haven’t tried that).
“Mahalo” is an ancient Hawaiian word of gratitude, esteem, and respect. MAHALO Skin Care is a Hawaiian enchantment, and an inspiration for indulging in sacraments of self-care for the manifold gifts of your skin, your mind, your spirit, and the Earth.
After being completely floored by Mahalo products, I had to purchase The Bean mask when it was launched last year in the month of March. The dark brown (almost black looking) mask with its unique ingredients like cacao, vanilla and coffee sounded irresistible!
The BEAN mask is an ultra-concentrated epicurean facial treatment that awakens and revives skin and spirit akin to the morning coffee after a long week. The succulent bean marriage of cacao, vanilla and coffee is enveloped in sweet enzymes of raw Hawaiian honey to further entwine with plytonutrient plant botanicals, and precious extracts that are fortified by “secret weapon” antioxidants.
And boy was I not correct with my expectations? The Bean definitely delivers one of the best and potent union of antioxidant actives that work brilliantly to detoxify and support skin’s healing abilities. It contains gentle exfoliation grains from Moroccan clay that help in exfoliating dead skin revealing clearer, smoother, and baby soft skin. On many occasions, it has helped in rapid healing of active acne on my face. I am also pleasantly surprised by how hydrating this mask is! Oh and did I mention the decadent aroma of coffee and cacao (with notes of honey, vanilla, patachouli, and ylang ylang) that will instantly revive your skin and spirits alike?
I generally use this mask every week. (I’m already on my third jar!) Sometimes, the mask solidifies a bit so I usually add a few drops of my favorite toner and blend it well. As with most of my masks, I like to keep them longer – in this case, for about 40-60 minutes. Then I rinse it off with warm water by slowly massaging into my skin to gently exfoliate. And I absolutely love the healthy, glowy skin that is visible immediately thereafter.
